Motorhome Chooser

Model:
2008 Bilbos Celex (LWB)

Overview Photos

Outside:

With the roof down this vehicle looks so neat it could sit on your drive and no-one would know it has all the facilities to take you up to the hills and far away, down to town to pick up the shopping, or even accommodate your bags and passengers to the airport.

The VW profile is very tidy and taking optional metallic paint and alloys will ensure a more urban than commercial look.  The Bilbos elevating roof canopy is so slim when down as to be almost unnoticeable, helped by internal fastening.  Its quick to raise and lower too, having gas struts for assistance.  External services are unobtrusive so as not to spoil the clean lines. Inside:
Enter through the wide sliding side door and once the roof is raised, there is plenty of light, airy space in the Celex, especially in LWB form as shown here.  (You can still sit in comfort with the roof down.).  Its roomy enough for four to sit in comfort once the cab seats are swivelled, however care must be taken with the drivers’ seat to avoid fouling the handbrake.  The body is well insulated and fixtures and fittings are all hard-wearing, of sufficient quality to withstand long term use.

Considering the overall size of the vehicle, there is a good deal of storage, including a mini-wardrobe and clothes cupboard, storage below and to the rear of the bench seat and in the kitchen area, two drawers plus overhead lockers. Facilities include a hob and grill, 12v lighting, 230v mains socket and a cold water system.  Webasto diesel heating is available as an option.

The rear bed is a cinch to use, the backrest simply hinges over the seat base as shown in our picture.  The available space for the optional bed in the elevating roof looks generous, however no bed was fitted on the model viewed.  The canopy is made of high grade plastic coated material for water-tightness and has zipped window flaps.

Summary:
This is a true dual-purpose vehicle, suiting couples looking for that combination of  good looks, manoeuvrability and sustainability.  It can’t have all the facilities of larger coachbuilts, such as a full washroom or oven, however, they can’t offer the car-like dimensions and adaptability of the Celex.
